Pallet rack is a material handling and storage system commonly used by warehouses and logistics businesses. As its name suggests, pallet rack is often used for palletized products. Its large, open design allows for pallets to be easily loaded and unloaded with a forklift, making the storage and retrieval of goods easier. The pallet rack’s versatile design allows for it to be modified with various accessories to be used in other settings as well.

Big box retailers such as Home Depot, Menards, and Lowes, and smaller hardware stores all have unique needs when it comes to storing and displaying their products. Pallet rack offers the high-density storage capabilities that they need while being adaptable to these retailers’ individual needs. Retail rack accessories are a great way to turn your pallet rack into customizable retail displays for your customers. In this guide, we will explore how you can use retail rack accessories to get the most out of pallet rack for your retail store.

What Are Retail Rack Accessories?

Retail rack accessories are pallet rack fixture systems that help convert your existing rack into retail-friendly product displays. They are also a great way to store products with shapes and sizes that are difficult to fit in a regular rack and to maximize the number of SKUs in a pallet rack bay.

American Storage & Logistics carries several types of retail rack accessories that are in stock and ready to ship. Our accessories are compatible with all major rack manufacturers’ pallet rack systems.

Types of Retail Rack Accessories

M-Dividers

M-dividers act as a separator for bulky and tall products such as windows and doors. They bolt to the three teardrop beams at the back of the bay and provide customizable storage options for your pallet bays. The “M” shape of the divider helps maximize the support of bulky items to prevent them from falling over and getting damaged. Our M-dividers come with the necessary hardware and have 36” or 42” depth options with 72“ height.

Hanging Wire Mesh Dividers

Hanging wire mesh dividers are used to separate the products on your pallet racking shelves. They hang from the wire decking above and fit securely into the decking in the rack below. They are easy to install by clipping into the wire rack above and can easily be relocated. The depth of the wire mesh divider needs to match that of the pallet rack. Our wire mesh dividers also come in 12” and 24” height options.

Wire mesh dividers can be used to separate many types of products and work especially well for smaller items. They are used to create cubbies in the pallet rack that can then be used to organize products by their SKU. Wire mesh dividers increase the storage density of your pallet rack by allowing for a higher number of smaller items to be placed on a shelf while keeping them organized.

V-Dividers

V-dividers are used to separate large and bulky products that are stored vertically within a bay. They work well for longer items such as piping and wood casing. They bolt to the teardrop beams of the shelf above and provide customizable storage options for your pallet rack shelves. We carry V-dividers that are 36” or 42” deep and 36” high.

V-dividers have two brackets; one for the front pallet rack beam and one for the back. Since they cover the entire depth of your pallet rack, they need to be ordered in the exact depth of your bays. These dividers can be used to separate each product or can be placed in between sections to separate them by SKU. When ordering V-dividers, take into consideration the vertical length of the items being stored. It is recommended that at least one-third of the product’s length should rest against the divider to prevent it from falling over.

Single Divider Arm

Divider arms are used to separate vertically stored products. They bolt to a teardrop beam at the back of the pallet rack and can be attached at any desired level, and provide customizable storage options for products of different sizes. They work well to separate items such as tools and conduits, and also work for hanging items. We carry two length options in divider arms; 36” and 42”.

Reel Holder

Reel holders attach directly onto the uprights of the pallet rack on both sides of the bay. A rod is hung between the holders to store products such as reels and spools in the pallet rack.

More Ideas For How to Convert Your Existing Pallet Rack to Retail Rack

The use of your pallet rack does not need to be limited to just pallets. You can take advantage of the durability of your pallet rack while adding versatility for storing items of various sizes and shapes. If you are looking to turn your pallet rack into retail displays, or have odd sized products to store, retail rack accessories offer solutions to make the conversion and maximize your storage density. Retail Rack Accessories can help you break up shelf levels or even whole bays of pallet rack to best store any products regardless of the shape and size. If you are looking to convert your pallet rack to store retail products, you can select from a wide variety of accessories that will best fit your needs. Here are some storage ideas to keep your products organized:

  • Longer products such as pipes and lumber can be stored horizontally or vertically. M-dividers and divider arms are great options for storing lengthy products.

  • M-dividers are also great for storing large and bulky items such as windows and doors. 36” deep M-dividers are commonly used for storing doors and windows. The 72” height is useful for storing taller items such as lumber.

  • V-dividers are commonly used to store large, rectangular products such as windows, doors, mattresses, mirrors, and plywood in a vertical position. They can be placed after each product or in between different SKUs to separate them. Storing these products in a vertical position allows for easier access by customers and improves your display. However it also makes these products easier to fall over and get damaged. Using V-dividers that are at least one-third of the product’s length will help keep it safe from damage.

  • Divider arms can be used to separate vertically stored products such as rugs, pipes and other long items. They are also used for tool storage. Two divider arms can be installed closer to one another to store products such as shovels that need support on each side.

  • Mesh hanging dividers are very versatile and easy to install. They are used to separate smaller products and can be moved as needed.
